About the Department
A Fatal disease of all warm blooded animals and man involving CNS. Transmitted by the bite of infected animals. It is the most unpredictable disease with variable incubation period. Dog is the chief source. The virus is maintained in wild carnivores like foxes and jackals. Carriers infection in apparently healthy dogs is recently recorded.
No, once a rabies is confirmed by symptoms and history of a previous dog it is no use of treating rabies. On the contrary it is risky for owner as well as the Doctor.
Dog-bite is never totally free from risk. A healthy looking dog might be having rabies virus in his saliva without himself suffering from or showing symptom of rabies. Recommend a complete course of Antirabies vaccination.
Anthrax is a bacterial disease caused by Bacillus Anthracis. It is peracute septecimic disease of animals common in cattles. It is communicable to man.
If the animal is died of Anthrax deep burial of carcass should be done without opening it.
The maintenance requirement for cows and buffaloes are almost same but because the fat content in buffalo milk is higher than that in the cow milk buffalo are fed with a higher allowance for milk yield which works out to be half of the milk yield.
There are some important points to be considered for establishing a dairy farm :- A dairy building should have the higher elevation as compared to surrounding ground to offer a good slope for rainfall and drainage of dairy waste. Low lands and depression should be avoided. The orientation of the dairy sheds should be north - south. The site of the farm should be selected in such a way that there should be a plot of land available so that cultivation and building should be constructed on harder strata. Other important considerations are honest economic and regular supply of hard working labour, sufficient supply of electricity and fresh clean water at cheap rate.
1. maintenance ration. 2.Production ration. The maintenance part of the ration depends on the body weight, age, and lactation/pregnancy but for all practical purposes the body weight of all the animal purposes is single most important parameter used for formulating the ration for ex. 225kg body weight a cow requires 13.5 kg of green feed like maize or leafy jowar for maintenance where as a heavier one of 450 kg weight will require 27kg of the same. If the legumes like cowpea and legumes are available it can support 10 kg of milk production in adult cows or 5kg in growing young cows without any concentrate supplement. However the usual practice in dairy farms is to feed 1kg of concentrate mixture for every 2.5 kg to 3kg of milk produced. Thus, a cow of 400 kg and yielding 10 kg of milk may be fed a 0.25 kg of jowar or maize and 3.5 kg of concentrated mixture or (C 6kg) straws, 0.8kg groundnut cake and 3.5kg concentrated mixture.
